Former governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has again experienced a major set back in his political quest, as the election tribunal sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan on Tuesday upheld Balogun’s election.

The former governor of the All Progressive Congress (APC) lost in the February 23 Oyo South Senatorial District election to his opponent, Senator Kola Balogun of the People’s  Democratic Party (PDP).

The panel led by Justice Anthony Akpovi (Chairman), Justice Chinyere Ani and Justice Sambo Daka had dismissed the prayers contained in the petition and held that petitioners failed to prove the petition beyond reasonable doubt, arguing that only 11, 759 votes were in contention out of the total votes scored and recorded.

However the justice held that even if the prayers in the petition were granted and the contested votes added to Ajimobi’ s votes, it still would not have upturned the election as Bologun would have led with 1,743 votes.

Senator Lola Balogun reacting the the judgement said

“It was an erudite judgment. The judgment was delivered in the interest of the masses. It was delivered fearlessly and it gave a renewed hope to the common man.

“That shows that in this country, there is still hope for the common man and that all hope is not lost,”

“As you all know, the election was a revolution. It was a vote against lawlessness, executive arrogance and against a government that lacked regard for every norm of good governance,” he said.
