The Ondo State Governatorial Election Petitions Tribunal has affirmed the victory of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Affirming Akeredolu’s victory in a ruling on Tuesday, the tribunal dismissed the petition filed by Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Jegede had approached the tribunal seeking to be declared the winner of the October 20, 2020 election on the grounds that Akeredolu was not properly nominated by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The ruling was delivered by a three-man panel led by Justice Umar Abubakar on Tuesday via Zoom as the regular venue of the panel was not open due to the strike action embarked upon by members of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).

Justice Abubakar struck out the petition for lacking in merit.

The judge ruled that the plaintiff lacked justification to interfere in the internal affairs of APC.
