Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno Defects to APC, Declares Support for Tinubu’s Second Term

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, on Friday announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), affirming his full support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Speaking during a ceremony at the State House in Uyo, the state capital, Eno said he owed no one an apology for backing the President, describing Tinubu as a leader he had long admired for his visionary approach to governance.
“As a young professional working in Lagos while he was the governor, I have always admired his style of leadership with focus and vision,” Eno said. “I have no apology whatsoever for supporting President Tinubu for a second term in office, to complete the reforms he has started.”
Governor Eno’s defection marks a significant political shift in Akwa Ibom, a state long considered a stronghold of the PDP. His move is expected to stir realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor’s public declaration aligns him with Tinubu’s ongoing economic and structural reforms, which have drawn both praise and criticism nationwide.
