Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has condemned the killing of former Chief of Defence Staff, ACM Alex Badeh (rtd), describing it as “political cleansing”.

Badeh was shot dead on the Abuja-Keffi Road while coming from his farm on Tuesday evening, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) announced.

“It is with a heavy heart that I regretfully announce the unfortunate demise of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, who died today, 18 Dec 18, from gunshot wounds sustained when his vehicle was attacked while returning from his farm along Abuja-Keffi Road.

“On behalf officers, airmen and airwomen of the Nigerian Air Force, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar, commiserates with the family of the late former Chief of Defence Staff over this irreparable loss. We pray that the Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest,” the Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola said in a statement.

But Fani-Kayode, who condemned the killing, said it was “political cleansing” because it happened on the 76th birthday of President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, the controversial ex-minister failed to provide any proof to back up his claim.

Fani-Kayode said, “The brutal murder of the former Chief of Defence Staff and former Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Alex Badeh, is a despicable and cowardly act. Those that were behind it shall not escape justice and they will pay a terrible price for their wickedness. God will avenge!

“With the murder of Badeh on Buhari’s birthday,it is clear that ours is a nation of not just ethnic and religious cleansing but also a nation of political cleansing.Does anyone still believe that Buhari will conduct a free and fair election and hand over power quietly next year?”
