Chilean forward, Alexis Sanchez has been handed a 16-month suspended sentence for tax fraud.

The player, who now plies his trade with Manchester United, accepted the deal offered by Spanish authorities to avoid trial in connection to tax evasion totalling one million euros ($1.23 million) over 2012 and 2013 image rights during his time at Barcelona.

According to AFP, the 29-year-old is the highest earner in the Premier League, carting home £500,000 per week before tax.

He is one of the high-profile players to have run afoul of Spanish tax laws, with others including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Javier Mascherano and Luka Modric.

Modric reportedly paid Spanish tax authorities around one million euros to settle his own image rights case.
