Alleged Sexual Misconduct: Yakubu Dogara Reacts

The Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dpogara has reacted to the sexual misconduct allegation levelled against three members of the house by the United States Ambassador.

Recall that the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle wrote a letter addressed to the Speaker of the house alleging that three of the house members were involved in sexual misconduct and attempted rape while in the state on official business in April 2016.

One of the named reps, Mark Gbillah in reply to the US Ambassador demanded the “full video/CCTV footage covering the period of their entire stay at the hotel adding that the footage “should clearly show the movements and activities of every member of the group throughout the hotel”.

Yakubu Dogara while addressing the issue on Saturday in a statement issued by his spokesman, Turaki Hassan, said “Judgment can only be passed when an allegation is proven.”

He further stated: “Together with the US Embassy in Nigeria, we will get to the bottom of this matter.”

The speaker of the house noted that asides the letter written by the US Ambassador, no other evident has since been forwarded to his office.

He added: “We await the result of the investigation into the matter.”
