The Lagos state government has formally announced it has cancelled the order that restricts the movement of persons and vehicles during environmental sanitation days in the state.

This was made known by the state Commissioner for the environment, Babatunde Adejare, during the ministry’s monthly media chat in Lagos. He disclosed that the state governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has decided that the state cannot afford to shut down a mega city like Lagos for a period of 3 hours.

Mr. Adejare noted that environmental sanitation should rather be a daily exercise and charged residents to make it a way of life. The commissioner also vowed to shut down markets violating the state’s environmental laws in 7 days.

The decision has come with mixed reactions from Lagosians with some under the impression the decision will make for a messier city, whilst most in agreement with government in its consideration that the restriction of movement is unececessary.
