“The wild wild West” were the words of former Kaduna state Governor, Balarabe Musa as he warned President Buhari on the ploy of Yoruba Governors to create Oduduwa Republic from security outfit, Operation Amotekun.

Balarabe in an interview with The Sun, cautioned Buhari and well-meaning Nigerians to be wary of Amotekun as it is a plan for the southwest to secede from Nigeria like IPOB.

Amotekun was inaugurated last week by South west governors to combat banditry which has become rampant in the geographical zone.

The former Kaduna state governor said southwest is not the only geographical zone affected by banditry. He noted North west recorded the highest number of banditry attacks in recent times, citing the instance where the Emir of Potiskum almost lost his life last week.

Comparing the Hisbah Police of the North to Amotekun, Balarabe said Hisbah was legal as it had the permission of the Army, Federal and state government to operate while the Yoruba initiated security outfit was illegal.

“First of all, taking into account what happened in the history of Nigeria, this Amotekun will lead to a declaration of Oduduwa Republic. Look at the composition of those who constitute the organization in addition to the six state governors. There is also the OPC, Afenifere, and others. So, the fear is quite obvious.”

“It(Hisbah) is legal in the sense that, according to reports, the state House of Assembly passed a law to that effect. Yes. The issue is, does it contravene the provisions of the constitution? That is it. We have to find out. But in the case of Amotekun, clearly, it is illegal and it reminds us of our ugly past, the wild, wild, West.”
