Anambra Elections: Nigeria may break up in 2015 – Falana

Leading legal luminary, Femi Falana (SAN) has said that Nigeria may break up if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not get its act together by the 2015 elections.

He said that whilst it was not in the interest of any section for Nigeria to disintegrate, it may become inevitable if INEC does not get its act together.

“It is not in the interest of any faction of the ruling class to balkanise the country. It is also not in the interest of imperialism to have Nigerian broken up into pieces.

“However, with the lack of readiness on the part of the INEC as witnessed in the just concluded Anambra State governorship election there are genuine fears that the 2015 general elections crisis may lead to violent eruptions,” Falana warned.

He added: “Such fears cannot be dismissed. More so, that terrorist attacks may make election impossible in certain parts of the country while some candidates may be kidnapped.

“There are also threats that the country will be plunged into war if President Jonathan is not re-elected”.

“From all indications the management of the post election crisis by the ruling class will define the future of the country,” he said.
