Ancelotti Reacts to El Clasico Defeat, Identifies Defensive Lapses as Madrid’s Weak Point

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has attributed his team’s 4-3 loss to Barcelona in Sunday’s El Clasico to costly defensive errors, acknowledging that Los Blancos must urgently address issues at the back.
Despite a blistering start that saw Kylian Mbappé score twice in the opening 14 minutes to silence the Camp Nou crowd, Real Madrid were unable to hold their lead as Barcelona mounted a fierce comeback. Goals from Eric Garcia, Lamine Yamal, and a brace from Raphinha put the Catalan side 4-2 ahead by halftime. Although Mbappé completed his hat-trick in the second half, it was not enough to salvage a result for Madrid.
Speaking to the press after the defeat, Ancelotti admitted his side’s defending was not up to standard. “We made some glaring mistakes that cost us several goals,” he said. “In high-level matches against top opponents, you need to be on top of your game. We played well in attack, but it’s clear we can improve a great deal on defence.”
When asked about the possibility of ending the season without silverware, Ancelotti remained composed. “Everyone can make whatever assessment they want. We have to finish the season well and try to win the three remaining games,” he said.
The result sees Real Madrid fall seven points behind Barcelona, who now sit firmly at the top of the LaLiga table with just three matches left in the season.
