Heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, has been honoured in his homeland, Ogun state, after a street was named after him.

The said street, formerly referred to as “Cinema Road”, is located in the Sagamu Local government  Area of Ogun State, Nigeria.

Gbenga Banjo, The council Chairman, announced that the old “Cinema Road” will now be known as “Anthony Joshua Way”.

Banjo revealed this while speaking at his family house on the new “Anthony Joshua Way” in Sagamu, on Tuesday.

He explained that the street name change was a goodwill gesture to the boxing champ for bringing glory to Sagamu and Remoland.

A day later, Wednesday, the Remo Growth and Development Foundation congratulated the Sagamu LDA for naming the road after Joshua.

Yemisi Oluwole, The Chief Operating Officer of the body, released a statement which hailed the boxer and labelled him a “Remo International Ambassador”.

Oluwole seized the opportunity to appreciate all the leaders and stakeholders in the state.

She went on to admonish youths of Remoland to follow Joshua’s footsteps and be the best in their various areas of discipline.

“They should always be law abiding and stay away from any act that can lead to social unrest,” Oluwole adviced.

Earlier this month, Anthony Joshua retained his world title belts with a convincing ninth-round knock-out of Bulgarian challenger, Kubrat Pulev.

Joshua, aged 31years, holds the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO boxing titles.

The Nigerian-British boxer is currently locked in negotiations with fellow Brit, Tyson Fury, on a two-part boxing fight.

The unification bout is set to be one of the biggest fights in boxing history.

Promoters estimate the fight to be worth “300-500 million pounds”.

“If it does happen, it will be a two-fight package and could generate between 300-500m pounds, depending on where and when the fight takes place,” Tyson Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, recently said.
