The Tin-Can Island Port 2 Customs Command on Friday said it had recently trained 16 of its personnel on appropriate valuation of goods.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Godwin Andishu, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Andishu said the two- day-training, held between Feb. 23 and Feb 24, was to enhance the competency of the benefiting personnel with a view to promoting the revenue-generating capacity of the command.

“The goods valuation training hovered around the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS) and the essence was to make our officers more competent to implement the command`s revenue generating strategy“, he said.

The command`s spokesman said a number of officers had previously been trained on effective use of ICT (Information Communication Technology) tools to enhance their performance on the job.

He restated the resolve of the Controller, Alhaji Abdulkadir Dalhatu, toward training and retraining of personnel for efficient performance.

Andishu said five junior officers of the command were among the 1,596 officers recently promoted across the country.

He said four of the officers moved from the rank of Customs Assistant to Senior Customs Assistant, while the remaining one was promoted to Customs Inspector from the rank of Assistant Customs Inspector.

Similarly, the Apapa Area Command of the service also said six of its personnel had been trained on various Customs operations to improve their competencies.

In a statement made available to NAN on Friday, the Spokesman of the Command, Mr Emmanuel Ekpa, said all the beneficiaries were junior officers.

Ekpa said capacity development was an on-going thing at the command and that officers would be trained and retrained for optimal job performance. (NAN)
