The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has no plans to change its name or logo ahead of the 2023 general elections, National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan stated on Tuesday.

According to him, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s image has been “damaged” across Nigeria and the party should, therefore, consider a name and logo change.

The Herald recalls that a PDP chieftain and former presidential aide, Doyin Okupe, recently called on the party to change its name to revamp its image before Nigerians ahead of the next general election.

Ologbondiyan stated that the main opposition PDP remained the biggest party in Nigeria and does not need a name or logo change.

He added that despite being in the opposition, PDP performed well in the 2019 general elections.

“For those who are talking about change of name, we are not changing our party’s name or logo.

“The PDP remains the biggest in Nigeria’s political firmament and so, the issue of name change does not arise. Even without our name and logo, we did well in the last general elections.

“Maybe it is the APC that is very damaged now that will be considering a change of name, not PDP,” Ologbondiyan told Daily Independent.
