Chief Latep Dabang, Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau, says the party is set to produce the first female Senator from the North-Central.
Latep stated this on Friday at a town hall meeting of the party in Quan Pan Local Government Area ahead of the forthcoming Plateau South Senatorial by-election scheduled by the Independent National Electoral  Commission (INEC) for Oct. 31.
He said that the APC stakeholders of  Plateau  Southern Senatorial District had endorsed the candidature of a female, Prof. Nora Daduut, as the party’s candidate for the poll.
“I want to assure you that APC with the Governor, a minister and the deputy Speaker of House of Representatives from the southern zone, our candidate will surely win the by-election.
“Another reason is that late Sen. Ignatius Longjan was elected under the platform of APC and he was from Quan Pan, same as our candidate,” he said
Sen. Victor Lar, Director-General,  Prof. Nora Daduut Campaign Organisation and former senator of the zone, said that since the inception of democracy in the country, Plateau had yet to produce a female senator.
Lar described Daduut as a credible candidate that would effectively represent the zone and attract dividends of democracy to the area.
He urged the people of the zone, particularly women, to be part of history by electing Daduut.
A member representing Quan Pan South in the Plateau House of  Assembly,  Mr Muhammed Ballo, stated that the Local Government Area was faced with many challenges including poor road networks.
Bello urged the party’s candidate to ensure that the infrastructure needs of the area and the issues of insecurity were addressed when elected into the  Senate.
The Director-General of the Industrial Training  Fund  (ITF), Sir Joseph Ari, expressed confidence that Daduut would win the election considering her pedigree.
Ari called on the people of the zone to come out en masse and vote for the APC candidate to serve as the first female Senator from the North-Central.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the party’s campaign rallies for the poll would commence on Monday across the zone.
