APC vs PDP: Vote whichever presents Southern candidate in 2023 – Okupe tells Southerners

A former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has advised Southerners to vote for either of the two leading political parties that presents a Southern presidential candidate in 2023.

Okupe stated this Friday in a Facebook post titled, ‘Political Equation For 2023 Presidency’.

He identified some assumptions that he said would guide the choice of voters in the 2023 polls.

Assumptions

One of them, he said, was that PDP and APC were the two dominant political parties in Nigeria and one of them would probably carry the day.

“History has shown that idealism, activism and even very strong sentiments rarely affect overall election results,” he stated.

Secondly, Okupe said, “Many Nigerians and political observers believe that there are no significant differences between APC and PDP.

“This probably explains the reason why high-ranking officials of PDP readily defect to APC without any qualms.”

The third assumption, he stated, was that most southerners and not just the 17 southern governors were clamouring for power rotation to the South in 2023.

Submission

“Deriving from all of the above therefore, Southern electorates and those from other zones who support the idea of power rotation to the South in 2023, should just vote any of the two parties (APC or PDP) who presents a Southern candidate, since the difference between the two parties is just in their names.

“Mind you President Buhari will no longer be the issue. If you disapprove of Buhari or hate him for whatever reason, it will no longer be a matter for serious concern in 2023.

“He will be enjoying his retirement in Daura after his tenure.

“But if peradventure both parties present southern Presidential candidates , then Nigerians have the best opportunity to vote the better of the two and the very best for a united and prosperous Nigeria,” Okupe said.
