APC will be flushed out of Ekiti in 2022 – Ex-Deputy National Chairman

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni has predicted heavy defeat for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2022 gubernatorial election in the state.

Oni, who is a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, stated this in a Friday statement signed by the Director-General of his political organisation, Atunse Ekiti Movement, Dr Ife Arowosoge.

In the statement, he stressed that Governor Kayode Fayemi’s loss in all the councils in the state in 2014 would be nothing compared to the forthcoming defeat.

Recall that Oni recently rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing maltreatment from the APC.

He explained that in the 2014 poll, incumbent Governor Kayode Fayemi lost heavily to Ayodele Fayose because the APC maltreated Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who left the party in protest and contested the governorship election on the platform of Labour Party (LP).

Oni said that the same ill-treatment was extended to him, hence his decision to quit the party.

He insisted that the APC’s claim that he left its fold for selfish reasons was baseless.

Reacting to Chairman of Ekiti APC, Paul Omotoso’s claim that he was a “nominal member” throughout his stay in the party, Oni said it further confirmed APC’s recklessness, lawlessness and disregard for perceived enemies.

“Was it appropriate for Paul Omotoso to have described Oni, a former Governor, a foundation member of APC and the very first Deputy National Chairman, who always stood in as Acting National Chairman whenever the Chairman was not around as a nominal member of APC?” he queried.

He maintained that he would team up with his supporters and the people of Ekiti State to ensure that a worthy governor is installed in the state come 2022.
