The election of the senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, has been upturned by the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu after it was initially upheld by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal.

The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sir Victor Umeh, had petitioned the court to upturn the judgment of the election petition tribunal sitting in the Anambra state capital, Awka.

But delivering its judgment, the court held that the election petition tribunal erred in its judgment.

The court therefore ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a rerun within 90 days.

Ekwunife won the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
