Aregbesola Meets, Forgives Man Accused of 2006 Assassination Attempt

2 Min Read

Former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has met with a man who allegedly attempted to assassinate him in 2006, granting him forgiveness.

Aregbesola disclosed this in a Facebook post on Sunday, revealing that the man, identified as Sikiru Olaboye, sought his pardon after calling a local radio station in Osogbo, the Osun State capital. Following the call, Olaboye visited Aregbesola in person to express his remorse.

“Earlier today, I received Sikiru Olaboye, one of the men who attempted to assassinate me during the 2006 Oroki Day Celebration in Osogbo,” Aregbesola wrote.

The former governor assured Olaboye that he held no grudges against him or anyone involved in the attack.

“Today, while praying for him, I assured him that I hold no grudges against him or anyone else involved. I neither harboured resentment nor sought revenge after God spared me from that attack,” he stated.

Aregbesola described God as the ultimate forgiver and prayed for divine mercy for both himself and his attacker.

“It is God alone who has the power to forgive all our shortcomings. As His servants, I pray that He forgives both his and mine, Aamen!” he concluded.

The 2006 Oroki Day celebration in Osogbo was marred by violence, with Aregbesola, then the governorship candidate of the Action Congress, narrowly escaping an alleged assassination attempt.
