There has been another round of violence allegedly carried out by armed Fulani herdsmen in several villages in Adamawa state.

Fleeing villagers and eyewitnesses reported that a Pastor of the Lutheran Church of Christ as well as 50 other people lay dead at the end of the attacks carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

According to the Punch newspapers, the villages of Gon, Nzumosu, Bolki, Nyanga, Bukuto in the Numan Local Government Areas of the state, were attacked by armed Fulani herdsmen numbering over 200.

The villagers further said the attacks occurred in the evening and did not appear to be sporadic or random because the attacks were systematic and followed a precise order as the invaders used Abbare, a neighbouring community in Taraba State as a staging post.

The armed herdsmen reportedly burnt down three of the attacked villages as survivors of the attack returned and found their homes charred.

There was further tragedy in the area when residents reported that a boat conveying about 40 women and children fleeing attacks on the community capsized killing all on board except five persons.

Reacting to the news, the lawmaker representing Numan in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Sodom Tayedi, decried the incessant attacks by suspected herdsmen on the communities and berated the fresh killings, describing it as offensive and unacceptable.

She expressed anger following the perceived reluctance of the military to contain insecurity, which had gone on in her constituency over the last three years.

The Adamawa state police command could not be reached for comments at the time this report was filed leaving the narrative with no official government comment on the matter.

Although the problem of armed herdsmen attack has been ongoing in the middle belt for a while, it took a turn for the worse this January when the herdsmen began attacking and occupying villages prompting an outcry from Plateau, Benue, Taraba and Adamawa states.
