The Nigeria Army has reiterated its commitment to rooting out the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria by December, while saying that no amount of distraction will deter it from achieving its aim.

In an interview on Sunday with the News Agency of Nigeria, the Theater Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj.-Gen. Yushau Abubakar, said the Army will continue to put pressure on the insurgents until they are completely wiped out.

The Theater Commander was reacting to the recent spate of bombings in the country that has led to the killing and maiming of scores of people and left properties worth several millions destroyed.

“I want to assure all that for every second that passes, we get more committed to fighting the insurgents; we cannot be deterred.

“We are doing as much as we could to ensure that we completely eradicate the insurgents as quickly as possible because we are aware of the timeline within which to complete the task,” he noted.

Abubakar who spoke in Maiduguri said the Army already had intelligence informing it about the perpetrators of a recent bombing in the city.

“We searched the houses and certain items that we recovered at the vicinity, gave us some clues.

“Investigation on those that we suspect that are either participating or hiding, fueling or conniving with those that carried out those acts, is ongoing.

“They will be exposed in due course,” he stressed.

Abubakar, who said the Army was devising a means for the public to feed them vital information without exposing themselves, urged residents of the areas plagued by the Boko Haram menace to be security conscious and inform the Army about any suspicious movement they notice in their surroundings.
