Despite the success recorded in the war against insurgency, the Nigerian Army is not leaving anything to chance as it plans to launch a final operation to rescue all abducted persons by Boko Haram.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, disclosed this on Wednesday when the House Representatives Committee on the Army paid him a visit as part of their oversight function.

Lt. Gen. Buratai told the House Committee led by its chairman, Rimande Shawulu that the `Operation Rescue Final’is aimed at mass rescue of abducted persons.

Buratai said: “Once we start the operation, we will not relent until everybody abducted is rescued.”
He reiterated the Army would always respect human right and would not infringe on the right of people during the operation.

He appreciated the effort of the committee in ensuring that allocation to the army in the 2016 budget was increased and also sought for more funding in order to strengthen the army.

In his own response, the chairman of the committee praised the Nigerian army for its efforts in restoring peace and stability not only in the northeast ravaged by Boko Haram but also in the country at large despite the limited resources at their disposal.

Shawulu stressed that “We are requesting for quicker responses to the issues and matters referred from the committee to you. This is important to assure members of the public that there is a channel that can lead to legal, constitutional and peaceful resolution of their complaints. This will also ensure that people do not seek extra-legal resolutions.’’
He assured the army of the committee’s continued support to enable it perform better.
