The Secretary-General, Afenifere Renewal Group, Bashorun Sehinde Arogbofa, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sack his two education ministers.

He said the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu and the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba deserved the sack for plotting to ground education in the country for one year.

Recall that Nwajiuba, who is also a member of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, announced on July 6 that schools would reopen for graduating students on August 4.

But in a counter-statement on July 8, Adamu reversed his junior colleague’s announcement, noting that schools under his ministry’s control would remain closed until it is safe to reopen them.

Reacting, Arogbofa lambasted the two ministers and blamed Adamu for allegedly setting education in Nigeria back to the stone age.

The Afenifere scribe, who spoke with reporters in Akure, Ondo State, said, “Adamu Adamu should be sacked, he can not bring our school system back to the stone age. They had about six months to plan for these children, The last six months all these children have been preparing for the WASCE, what did the Federal Government do?

“I think the two ministers in the ministry should go, why would one minister say the pupils should resume writing their paper in August and the other minister would come and reverse the order and that the school would be closed down for the whole year.

“It is a reality that the COVID-19 is in the country but they should have envisaged what will happen and make necessary arrangements against it for the pupils. Why should education be closed down for a whole year?”

Arogbofa said that the two ministers were working at cross-purposes and should be relieved of their posts.
