Arsenal And Atletico Set to Face Off In Europa League Semi Final

2 Min Read

Arsenal will be facing off with Atletico Madrid in the Semi-Final of the Europa league as both clubs search for silverware this season.

The Gunners and Atletico both survived scares in their respective Quarter-Final games to reach this stage.

Arsenal were down 2-0 with only one goal needed by CSKA Moscow to replicate what Roma did to Barcelona on Tuesday night before goals from Danny Welbeck and Aaron Ramsey won the Gunners the tie.

Atletico had their keeper Jan Oblak to thank for a string of impressive saves to keep the scores at 1-0 against Sporting Lisbon. A bit of wastefulness didn’t help Atletico’s cause at all either.

But both teams made it through and now they will face off

The other tie has Marseille against RB Salzburg who in rather sensational circumstances, overcame Lazio to win the tie 6-5.

The Europa League was the first trophy Atletico Manager Diego Simeone ever won with the club and for Arsene Wenger it could possibly represent his last Arsenal trophy as speculation continues about his future at the club.

Wenger has so far never won a European trophy, falling short in 2001 in the UEFA cup when Arsenal was beaten on penalties by Galatasaray and in 2006 when they lost the Champions League final to Barcelona.
