The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is in disagreement with the President, Muhammadu Buhari, over the appointment of a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Ishaq Oloyede as the new JAMB Registrar.

The union, while noting defects in the era of the new JAMB Registrar at the university which it described as ‘anti-democratic and anti-union’ called for the probe of the new JAMB boss.

Expressing the concerns of the union in Lagos, the ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi said: “Given our inside knowledge of his anti democratic and anti-union antecedents, Professor Oloyede is the last person that we expected to be so honoured with a national appointment of that status in the education sector.”

The ASUU president while noting one of the anti-workers move made by the new JAMB boss said: “He led the administration’s team to as far as Lagos to testify falsely against the workers before the Industrial Arbitration Panel”.

He further disclosed that his administration sacked a total of 49 lecturers from the University.

Further establishing his case against Oloyede, the ASUU president noted that the academic staff which was reinstated in 2009 by the decision of the Supreme Court was not fully reinstated by Oloyede who was the then VC of the institution.

Ogunyemi further said: “As VC of UNILORIN, the system was manipulated to favour his son and daughter and within weeks, gave them awards for overseas training despite explicit regulations against the practice.”

He also noted that Oloyede exploited staff members of the university by collecting money for ASUU which he never refunded.

In the same vein, Ogunyemi disclosed that Oloyede, as the VC of the institution doubled pension deduction from UNILORIN staff suddenly with claims that the original deductions were not enough.

The ASUU President added: “The above represent some of the reasons why the Union is appalled that Oloyede has been offered an appointment to head the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

“The Union has resolved to lodge an official complaint with the appropriate authorities and to demand investigation into the activities of Oloyede while in office as VC of UNILORIN”.
