ASUU threatens Strike over IPPIS: Nigerians react

3 Min Read

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU have kicked against the new Federal Government salary payment structure, IPPIS acronym for Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.

Some members of the Union have threatened to embark on strike if the government goes ahead to implement IPPIS salary payment structure without their consent.

However, Nigerians believe ASUU must be hiding a skeleton for the union to be against a policy that would block all leakages of government funds, hence secure government resources.

Nigerians have taken to the streets of Twitter to express their opinions about the ASUU versus IPPIS payroll showdown.

Read some of their reactions;

@DrJoeAbah tweeted

There are ghost workers and then there are people claiming multiple salaries. In one case, one person was claiming 20 salaries. It was linking IPPIS to BVN that caught him.

We need more reasons from #ASUU as to why they are opposed to IPPIS implementation. This change is actually coming they should not fight it.

@DrJoeAbah

President Buhari is paid from IPPIS, as are judges. IPPIS hasn’t fixed their retirement ages at 60 years. The military is on IPPIS. They have allowances and foreign duty. But let’s continue to be held hostage by ASUU and to prioritise political interest over National interest.

@fundowo

I support you on this, ASUU is corrupt, the lecturers in schools are feeding off the porous system. I have worked in a tertiary system and know exactly how it works and why they are fighting it seriously.. Bunch of glorified scallywags masquerading under the umbrella of unionism

@DejiAdesogan

I heard OAU and UNILORIN back the FGN on IPPIS but ASUU vowed to fight it all. What’s really the bone of contention? #Education

@GbolaGbadamosi

Most ASUU fights are self interests fights as it should be. Let ASUU confirm: 1. Do some of their members work in several universities simultaneously?

2. Their fight against sexual predator lecturers with huge libidos. We are then happy to fight their anti-IPPIS fight with them
