Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed his condolences to Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah on the death of his mother.

Mrs. Janet Abashen Hauwa Kukah died aged 86 in the early hours of Friday in Kaduna.

Mama Fada, as the deceased was fondly called, reportedly died surrounded by her immediate family members.

In a condolence message he personally signed, Atiku said, “My deepest condolences, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah on the loss of your beloved mother, Mrs Janet Abashen Hauwa Kukah. There’s no loss like the loss of a mother. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. May her soul rest in peace.”

Mama Kukah was born on June 1934 at Katul village in the present Ikulu Chiefdom of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Before her demise, she was a dedicated member of the Zumunta Mata Catholic Church. She embarked on pilgrimage to Jerusalem in August 2000.

“Mama was a very loving mother who treated us with love and empathy. She was a lover of peace and lived peacefully with all and sundry, irrespective of religion and ethnicity.

“Her death has definitely created a vacuum that will be too difficult to be filled. We thank God for her life and we are grateful to God for the life she lived,” one of her children, Mr Samuel Kukah, said.
