Atiku Faults Tinubu for Attending APC Chairman’s Mother’s Funeral Amid Insecurity in Plateau
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State on Saturday to attend the funeral of Mama Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.
Atiku argued that the President’s presence at a social event in Plateau, one of the states hardest hit by violent attacks, instead of consoling victims of insecurity, was a sad reflection of misplaced priorities.
He made his position known in a post on his verified X handle, where he described Tinubu’s action as “a mockery of leadership.”
According to the former Vice-President, it was regrettable that the President chose to attend a funeral linked to the APC chairman rather than visit communities suffering from persistent killings and displacement across the region.
“With large swathes of the country still under siege from unrelenting insecurity and thousands of innocent lives lost, it is deeply unfortunate that President Bola Tinubu has not, for once, found it worthy to visit any of the affected states to commiserate with the grieving citizens,” Atiku said.
