Empire star, Jussie Smollett has been arrested hours after he was charged by Chicago Police Department for allegedly filing a false report.
The police accused Smollett, who stars as Jamal Lyon in Fox hit show “Empire”, of lying about a supposed homophobic and racist physical attack by two Nigerian brothers, Ola and Abel Osundairo, on him in January.
A spokesman for the department said that felony criminal charges had been preferred against the 36-year-old actor.
The Chicago Police spokesman, Anthony Guglielmi tweeted on Thursday: “Jussie Smollet is under arrest and in custody of detectives.
“At 9am at #ChicagoPolice Headquarters, Supt Eddie Johnson, Commander of Area Central Detectives Edward Wodnicki will brief reporters on the investigation prior to the defendants appearance in court.”
