A 20-year-old auto mechanic, Rasaki Tajudeen, on Friday pleaded guilty to breaking into the premises of the Celestial Church of Christ in Lagos to commit felony as he was hauled up before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Following his guilty plea, the Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, remanded the accused in Kirikiri Prisons pending sentence at the next date of adjournment.

The accused, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and felony.

The prosecutor, Police Sgt. N. Kenrich, said the accused committed the offences on Jan. 30 at 2.30 a.m. at No. 52/54, Aje St., Oke- Odo in Agege, a Lagos suburb.

He told the court that the accused conspired with others still at large by attempting to commit a sacrilege in the premises of the Celestial Church of Christ, Majemu Parish, Oke-Odo in Agege.

The accused also broke into the church premises of the church late at night with intent to commit felony, the prosecution said.

The offences contravened Sections 311 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 311 stipulates a seven-year jail term for breaking into place of worship and committing felony, while Section 411 stipulates two years for conspiracy.

The magistrate fixed March 21 to sentence the accused. (NAN)
