Nigerian pop sensation Ayra Starr has made history by becoming the first African female artist to surpass 5 million followers on Spotify, setting a new benchmark for African artists on the global streaming platform.
The Mavin Records star, known for her breakout hit “Rush,” reached the milestone this week, reinforcing her position as one of the continent’s most influential music exports.

Despite the achievement, Ayra Starr still ranks behind fellow Nigerian singer Tems in total streams. According to Spotify data, Ayra Starr boasts an impressive 2.7 billion streams across all credits, while Tems leads with 3.8 billion.
Her most streamed track on Spotify is the viral hit “Santa,” which has garnered over 707 million streams. “Rush” remains her most streamed solo single, with more than 474 million streams to date.
The milestone adds to Ayra Starr’s growing list of international accomplishments, including a Grammy nomination and collaborations with global stars like Chris Brown, Stormzy, and Leigh-Anne.
