Bad Losers: River Plate Fans Spit At Messi After Thrashing By Barcelona

1 Min Read

Fans of Argentine club, River Plate, who were hammered 3-0 by Barcelona in Sunday’s final of the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup reportedly accosted Barcelona star, Lionel Messi, hurling insults and spitting at him.

The incident occurred at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport in Japan, where this year’s tournament was played, when the Barcelona team was trying to board a flight back to Spain.

While the reason for the fans’ actions was uncertain, pundits say it may not be unconnected to what Argentine football fans believe is Messi’s lack of dedication when playing for the national team compared to when playing for Barcelona.

The 28-year-old Messi, who is the captain of the Argentine national team, has been criticised by fans of the Albiceleste for failing to replicate his record-breaking exploits at Barcelona for his national team.

Also not spared the end of the Argentinian fans’ sharp tongues was former River Plate player, Javier Mascherano, whom they accused of having forgotten where he came from.

Guys, what do you think of the attitude of these fans? Is it justified or are they just being bad losers?
