Bala Mohammed Dismisses Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Commitment to PDP
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dismissing rumours that he plans to defect to another political platform.
Speaking in Abuja on Saturday after the inaugural meeting of the publicity and communications sub-committee for the PDP’s forthcoming national convention, Mohammed said he remains firmly committed to the opposition party.
The PDP Governors’ Forum chairman expressed concern over the recent wave of defections by some party members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that while he cannot dictate his colleagues’ political choices, efforts are ongoing to stabilize the party.
“I assure you, I am not going anywhere. I am in the PDP, and my state has no element of division,” he said. “As a leader of a group of equals, I cannot dictate the choices of my colleagues. But a lot of discussions are ongoing behind the scenes. The wave of defections could have been worse, but we are managing it.”
Mohammed added that while some defections were politically motivated, those leaving the PDP should avoid tarnishing the party’s image.
“Politics is about choice,” he noted, “but I urge those moving on to do so with decency and not damage the reputation of the PDP on their way out.”
The Bauchi governor reiterated that the PDP remains a strong and united platform, confident it will bounce back stronger ahead of the next general elections.
