Bandits wreak havoc in Sokoto, kill over 50 people in one day

Rabah and Isa local governments areas of Sokoto State on Saturday came under simultaneous attacks by bandits, leading to the death of over 50 people.

The victims, who were from five villages in the local government areas, were buried on Sunday according to Islamic rites.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of the state and some other government functionaries attended the burial ceremony of about 25 of them in Rabah.

In Isa Local Government Area, 25 people were killed while many others were injured.

An eyewitness from Sapiru village, Abdullahi Maiwada, narrated that, “The bandits stormed Sapiru village, under the Tozai Ward in the Isa Local Government Area at about 5pm on more than 50 motorcycles on Saturday.

“They entered the town shooting sporadically. Eighteen people were killed instantly, while another seven later died. Fourteen of the victims are currently receiving treatment at the general hospital.

“Another two, who are in critical condition, have been moved to the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto while another one is receiving treatment at the Orthopedic Hospital in Wamakko.”

also speaking, Another villager from Tsage, said. “ In the Rabah Local Government, where Tambuwal attended the burial rites, 25 people from Kalfu, Tsage, Rakonni and Geeri villages were killed in another attack.”

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sadiq Abubakar, said four suspects who were allegedly involved in the killings, had been arrested.

Herald Nigeria also gathered that a woman, pretending to be mad and was alleged to be the bandits’ informant, was among the four suspects in police custody.
