Barcelona reject second Manchester United offer for former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas

Barcelona have rejected a second offer from Manchester United for midfielder Cesc Fabregas, according to Spanish source Sport.es.

United boss David Moyes confirmed on Sunday the club had made a second bid, believed to be around £30m, for the 26-year-old former Arsenal captain but the Catalans have again insisted Fabregas is not for sale.

Moyes said United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was dealing with the bid and the Scot appeared hopeful a deal could be struck with the managerless La Liga outfit.

“As I understand it, Ed had a response [to the first bid],” Moyes told the BBC at a news conference in Yokohama.

“We have made a second offer, but Ed is dealing with it rather than me.”

“When you’re interested in good players, you want to give it every opportunity to materialise – and I’ll do that.

“I hope things can continue and move forward. At this moment in time, I can only tell you that Ed is working hard trying to make the deals happen. We can only hope that some of them fall into place shortly.”

However, Sport.es believe Barcelona are adamant the Spain international is not for sale this summer, after the club lost Thiago Alcanatara to Bayern Munich.

There has been no official word from Barcelona on Fabregas but both club captain Carles Puyol and vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu believe the player will not be sold.

“Barcelona can assure you we will not entertain any offers for Cesc,” Bartomeu was quoted as syaing by Sky Sports.

“It is totally ruled out, he’s not for sale.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed the Gunners have first option to re-sign Fabregas should Barcelona agree a price with another club.
