Benue South Rerun: Defectors Urge David Mark To Retire Or Be Humiliated

As former Senate President, David Mark prepares to reclaim his seat in the Senate at the Benue South senatorial district re-run election on Saturday, he has been warned to retire from politics after a 16-year sojourn in the Senate or stand a chance of being humiliated at the election.

The warning came on Wednesday from a two-time House of Representatives aspirant, Danladi Ochekpe, who led a massive defection of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

At the defection which took place at Ojantale/Ataganyi ward of Apa Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, Ochekpe said it was high time Mark took a backseat after 16 years of representing the senatorial district in the upper chamber of the National Assembly or risk being humiliated by his much-younger opponent.

Speaking on the reason for his defection, Ochekpe said: “I didn’t defect by chance. We have been deceived in the past 16 years not to go into opposition so I want to key into the change made possible by divine intervention. There had been no internal democracy in PDP. I’m leaving PDP to effect the much needed change in Idomaland.”

Sen. Mark, who was Senate President between 2007 and 2015, is contesting against David Onjeh of the APC.
