Argentine Marcelo Bielsa is the favourite to take over at Swansea City after the Welsh club dismissed Garry Monk.

The former Argentina and Chile coach, 60, has been out of work since leaving Marseille on August 8 following the first round of fixtures in Ligue 1.

According the BBC, Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has travelled to Argentina to personally negotiate with the Rosario coach ahead of his possible appointment in the coming days.

The second favourite with the English bookies is the Uruguayan Gus Poyet, who has previously managed English clubs Brighton and Sunderland. He is currently the AEK Athens boss.

Swansea would have to pay around 400,000 euros to the Greek club if they wanted Poyet, who only took on the role in October.

Other candidates include Brendan Rodgers, who was in charge at the Liberty before leaving for Liverpool, Dennis Bergkamp and Mark Warburton.

Alan Curtis is currently in charge of first team affairs and oversaw the defeat to Manchester City at the weekend. Next up in the Premier League is West Ham United.

After 16 games in the league, Swansea are 17th in the table with 14 points, the same total as Norwich City, who occupy the final relegation spot.
