The body of Olympic medalist, Blanca Fernandez Ochoa has been found. Spain’s acting Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez disclosed this on Wednesday, following a long search after the former alpine skier was declared missing on August 23.
Spain’s Civil Guard said the body of a woman had been discovered in the La Penota area of the Cercedilla mountain range in the Province of Madrid.
“The solidarity, support and human warmth in the Cercedilla mountain range has been touching.” Sanchez tweeted
“The emergency services and numerous volunteers have gotten involved in the search for Blanca Fernadez Ochoa, but it wasn’t meant to be. I send my thoughts to all her family.”

The 56-year old was last spotted in the district of Aravaca in Madrid, and her car was found on Sunday in the town of Cercedilla.
Blanca Fernández Ochoa was a World Cup alpine ski racer from Spain. Born in Madrid, she competed in four Winter Olympics, from 1980 through 1992. Her four older siblings all competed in alpine ski racing for Spain in the Winter Olympics: Dolores, Francisco, Juan Manuel, and Luis. She became the first woman to win a medal at the Winter Games when she earned bronze in the slalom in Albertville, France in 1992.
