Blasphemy: Nigerians React to Ganduje’s Death Warrant Threat

5 Min Read

Kano state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has sparked an uproar on Nigeria’s social space after he expressed his readiness to sign the death warrant of Singer convicted of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

A Shari’a court convicted Yahya Aminu after he was found guilty of Blasphemy against the revered Prophet.

Despite the outrage on Aminu’s death sentence, Gov Ganduje has disclosed he would append his signature on the death warrant documents without hesitation.

He said:

“But I assure you that immediately the Supreme Court affirms the judgment, I will sign it without any hesitation,”

Nigerians have taken to different social media platforms to express their thoughts regarding the Governor’ Ganduje’s statement.

Here are some reactions culled from Twitter;

@FhakuusHashim

Today, Ganduje is Khadimul Islam but I see him with both hands on him even though he was caught stealing with evidence.

They have re-crowned him & forgiven him for theft for the price of killing a man whose allegations cause no harm to another human, Certainly not the Prophet.

Religious Extremists will be angry with this particular tweet..

Ganduje was caught on tape collecting bribe which is a sin but his hands are yet to be amputated.
😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

@Adnanmouckhtar

You know nothing about islam, you can keep shouting and making noise but nothing will stop Ganduje from signing that warrant. We are happy with his decision, for that, we’ve forgiven him for the interest of our beloved Prophet SAW. Annabi ba wasa bane, ya wuce tunaninki.

@MalamMalamne

There’s no freedom of religion in Kano courtesy of Ganduje,

I listen to the song several time but I couldn’t find where he did what they said he did, he only praise his sheikh above the prophet which is his believe and freedom of religion is no longer allow again in Kano again.

Quran: Q5:33-34.
“The only punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is that they should be murdered, or crucified, or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides, or they should be imprisoned..

@InibeheEffiong

Ganduje has not signed death warrant for criminals convicted for murder and armed robbery in Kano State but wants to use the corrupt hands he used in collecting bribes to sign the death warrant of a citizen over a comment deemed to be blasphemous. Boko Haram will be celebrating.

@danjumatk

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje does not have a single shred of religious legitimacy. He is neither an Imam nor a caliph. His role in this verdict is an abuse of the sharīʿa itself. What happened to the rule of “ʿidraʿu al-

@von_Bismack

Gov. Ganduje is pandering to the general consensus of his people by saying he won’t waste time signing d death warrant

But what is d general consensus as to someone who was caught stealing monies meant for their development?

Seems blasphemy is bigger crime compared to looting?

@olusegunifade

Lord Lugard you can’t rest well…..Why did you merge us together! Blasphemy; fighting for a God that can defend himself!

Why take a soul you can’t create in the name of defending the sanctity of a God! Gosh!

Lugard….

@Adrealtravels

Isn’t it appalling that we’ve never seen the northern part of this country rise up against bad governance in protest before? The only thing that agitates them is religion the same tool that has been used to manipulate them into perpetual poverty..

@Adrealtravels

And even that, they still believe their poverty is from God. Slaves with a special love for their chains.. The burden that comes with being a Nigerian is enormous, the burden that comes with being a northern Nigerian is “twice as tall”.
