Bode George Expresses Shock Over Governor Peter Mbah’s Defection to APC
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has expressed surprise over the defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, George said he never anticipated Mbah’s decision to dump the PDP despite several reconciliation efforts by party leaders.
“I never saw it at any time. In fact, when Anyanwu was brought back as secretary to complete his assignment, he asked his people not to attend meetings,” George said.
His reaction follows Mbah’s formal announcement earlier on Tuesday that he had left the PDP for the APC, citing the need to connect Enugu State to the federal government for accelerated development.
While wishing the governor well in his new political journey, George maintained that the PDP remained a resilient party despite recent high-profile defections.
“He’s made his choice, and we wish him well. But the PDP remains strong. We’ve been through tougher times and survived,” he added.
Governor Mbah’s move marks another major defection from the opposition party, following a growing trend of PDP leaders crossing over to the ruling APC in the South East and South South regions.
