Bode George Warns Sule Lamido Against Suing PDP Over Chairmanship Form Issue
A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Chief Bode George, has cautioned former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, against taking legal action against the party over his inability to purchase the National Chairmanship nomination forms.
Lamido had reportedly threatened to sue the party after being unable to obtain the forms at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, where officials responsible for issuing them were said to be unavailable during his visit.
Reacting to the development during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Bode George warned that Lamido could face disciplinary action if he proceeds with the lawsuit, stressing that internal party mechanisms must first be exhausted before any legal steps are taken.
“This party is not owned by any individual. Before taking the party to court, you must exhaust the internal dynamics of the party. If you fail to do that, you can be punished,” George said.
He, however, maintained that every qualified member of the PDP, including Lamido, has the right to contest the National Chairmanship position.
“You want to make the process seamless and non-combative. Governor Sule Lamido has the right to compete. He can get the form, fill it, and appear on the convention day — we will vote. That is the practice in our party,” George explained.
The PDP chieftain added that some members are free to support candidates of their choice but emphasized that the final decision will rest with delegates at the party’s national convention.
“The final decision will be by delegates attending the convention, and it will be done openly,” he stated.
