Boko Haram: Abubakar Shekau’s Mother Finally Speaks out About Her Son

In what looks like a first, the mother of the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, Falmata Abubakar has spoken about her son.

According to Voice of America, VOA, they spoke to Abubakar in the village of Shekau, Yobe State.

When asked about her son, she said she had no idea where he was or what his situation was

“I don’t know whether he is dead or alive, only God knows, I have not seen him in the last 15 years,” she said.

The villagers also spoke of their fear in associating with the village due to its ties with the Boko Haram leader.

Boko Haram has been one of the deadliest forces in recent times and their ruthless ways kept the world in fear.

His mother also revealed how he left home in search of Islamic knowledge and how he came in contact with the founder of Boko Haram, Mohammed Yusuf who then indoctrinated him and made him this way.

“I did not set my eyes on him since he came into contact with Mohammed Yusuf,” she said.

“I know he is my son, and everyone knows a mother’s love for her son, but our attitude to life is different,” she said.

She added, “He has put so many people in serious difficulty, I pray that God guides him right.”

She said she would not curse him, “he has chosen a path different from the one we put him on, only God knows what he has become now.” she concluded
