Boko Haram Ambush Nigerian Soldiers – Kill Scores, Cart Away Equipment

3 Min Read

Reports coming out of the North-East have reported a Boko Haram ambush on Nigerian Army personnel in Bama. The soldiers of 151 Battalion of the Nigerian Army came under ambush during a failed assault operation in the area.

Although exact number of casualties is still unknown, reports have it that scores of Nigerian soldiers paid the ultimate price as the insurgents’ carted away expensive military equipment during the ambush.

Several days earlier the Boko Haram insurgents invaded Mavare Community in Cameroun and beheaded a resident they accused of being a Cameroonian military informant.

Boko Haram have also overrun Gwamba, Kodomun, Kwayine, Kopotum, Lawuru, Dong, Wuzon yashe, Koh and Luru town in Girei county of Adamwa state, North- East Nigeria.

The residents of Luru town had fled as Boko Haram invaded as the terrorists killed one person in the invasion. The town residents however tried to retake the town through the local vigilantes; the assault was largely unsuccessful and four vigilantes were killed.

The Nigeria Military has not acknowledged any of the attacks at the time this report was filed.

The Buhari led APC government had declared victory on the terrorist organisation, declaring that they were no longer an effective fighting force; the evidence on ground however seem to tell a different story.

Unofficial reports have been circulating since 2016 that Boko Haram had been massing and regrouping around the Lake Chad region; the military declared the reports as misleading and untrue while continuing to tout successes by soldiers in the field and under-reporting casualties in the North- East.

The kidnap of several school girls in Dapchi alarmed Nigerians to the Boko Haram threat as evident and real. The Presidency negotiated the release of all the girls but one – Rachael Shaibu; reportedly held back because she is a Christian.

The insecurity in the country continues to soar to alarming heights as it seems the Government is not alive to its responsibilities.

More focus has been placed on politics than the lives of Nigerians as hundreds continue to die daily in hot spots across the country. From herdsmen attacks to Boko Haram terrorists, corrupt SARS officials to cultists, unknown gunmen and armed robbers. Will this government ever accept culpability or responsibility?
