Boko Haram terrorists on Thursday, January 9, reportedly killed three soldiers and eight civilians in Monguno area of Borno state.

A source within the military noted that the terrorists also burnt over 300 tents at a mega internally displaced persons’ camp in Monguno, 100km away from Maiduguri.

One of the vigilante members who spoke on the incident, Musa Yakinu, said that the bodies of the victims were recovered at a roadside.

Earlier, The Herald reported that  Nigerian Army captain and four soldiers have been killed by some gunmen in an ambush in Sarkin Pawa in Munya local government area of Niger state.

The chairman of the Munya local government area, Mohammed Dazz, who confirmed the development said three other soldiers were also injured in the attack.
The deceased were said to have responded to a distress call by residents of Gwar community in Munya local government area when the incident took place.

Dazz said the gunmen took cover in the bush where they ambushed the team accompanied by some armed policemen in their armoured vehicle.

On sighting the team, the gunmen fired shots at them, killing the captain on the spot while the soldiers were hit during the gunfight which lasted for over one hour.

Dazz said: “I personally provided logistics to the soldiers before they left for the operation, both the soldiers and the police were overpowered due to a large number of the gunmen.

“One hour after they left for the scene, they came back with bullets holes in their armoured vehicle and the glass shattered.

“As I speak with you now, they have killed four soldiers and three others seriously injured. They have also burnt the Hilux Van of the soldiers.”
