No fewer than 14 Chadian civilians have been left dead and five others were wounded in an overnight attack launched on a fishermens’ camp by Boko Haram terrorists in the northeastern part of Lake Chad.

The Dimoya Souapebe official confirmed the development, saying the latest attack struck a camp of fishermen near the village of Kaiga on Lake Chad, which has been plagued by the militants since 2009.

Earlier, The Herald gathered that anti-jihadist militia leader in Borno state, Umar Kachalla, confirmed the death of 19 Fulani herders that engaged Boko Haram terrorists in a gunfight.

Kachalla explained that the herdsmen engaged the terrorists in the gunfight, targeting their cattle outside Fuhe Village near Ngala, close to the border with Cameroon. The anti-jihadist militia leader added that the corpses of the late herdsmen have been brought to a police station in the state.

Kachalla said: “The insurgents killed 19 of the herdsmen in the fight. The herdsmen were subdued by the better-armed Boko Haram gunmen.” It was further learnt that Boko Haram insurgents returned to Fuhe village after the killings, burning of homes and food supplies.

Meanwhile, The Herald reported that the Nigerian Army said its troops rescued 31 persons comprising 14 women and 17 children at Mantari, Malam Masari and Gabchari Villages in Bama Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno.

Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator, Col. Aminu Iliyasu, stated this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
Iliyasu said that the successful ambush operation conducted by the troops of 21 Special Armoured Brigade on Dec. 4 at Darel Jamel, Bama LGA of Borno led to the rescue.

He added that the troops killed a number of Boko Haram terrorists while several others escaped with gunshot wounds during the encounter.
According to him, the combined troops of 68/94 Battalions of Operation LAFIYA DOLE also uncovered a Boko Haram enclave and engage it with devastating volumes of fire at Malam Fatori in Abadam LGA.

According to him, “Without any attempt to return fire, the cowardly criminals scampered into the nearby bushes in complete disarray.
“Subsequently, the troops immediately embarked on the exploitation of this success by pursuing them along their withdrawal route.”
