Senator Shehu Sani has advised the Federal Government to take Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum’s comment about insurgent attack in Auno seriously.

Boko Haram attacked some travellers in Auno town, Konduga LGA along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway, killing 30, abducting some more and burning their vehicles on Sunday night.

A visibly-angry Zulum, who spoke at the scene of the incident, berated the military for not drafting soldiers to protect the town that has witnessed at least six attacks since his inauguration less than a year ago.

He said, “I am being pushed to the wall to say the truth.

“Since my inauguration as the governor of Borno State from May 29th to date, Auno town has been attacked for about six times now. And the reason is that the military has withdrawn from Auno town.

“We have made repeated plea to the military to re-establish a base in Auno since it is one of the flashpoints of the Boko Haram, but nothing has been done to that effect.”

Taking to Twitter on Monday, Shehu Sani condoled with the families of the victims and the Borno State Government over the attack.

He said, “My condolences to the Government and people of Borno State over the tragic and condemnable attacks & abductions in Auno today. The Government of the state and the relevant security agencies must not relent in their efforts to end terror and restore peace and order in the state.”

In a follow-up on Tuesday, the senator, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, advised the Federal Government to take the governor’s words seriously and take practical steps to prevent a recurrence.

“The FG should listen to what Governor Zullum said on the tragedy in Auno and take the practical steps towards ending this violence; The observation will be useful since it didn’t emanate from activists, Northern Elders or the opposition who are always ‘politicizing the issue’,” Sani said.

This is just as he advised FG against celebrating any triumph against Boko Haram until the insurgents have been finally defeated.

The senator said, “We have defeated them, we have decimated them, we have crushed them, we have exterminated them, we have annihilated them, We have pushed them, we have finished them; We have repeatedly raise our trophy in the middle of the race.”
