Borno Police Warn Against Criminal Use of Tinted Vehicles
The Borno State Police Command has raised concerns over the rising use of tinted vehicles by criminals to carry out illegal activities.
In a statement on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, disclosed that armed robbers, kidnappers, drug traffickers, and terrorists frequently exploit vehicles with tinted glass to hide their identities and movements.
According to him, data from the police Crime Frequency Records showed that tinted vehicles have been linked to several serious crimes across the country.
“Evidence has shown that tinted vehicles have frequently been used to conceal or facilitate serious crimes. Armed robbers, kidnappers, drug traffickers, and terrorists have all taken advantage of translucent glass to hide their identities or illicit objects,” Daso said.
He cited a tragic incident on September 26, 2025, when three children suffocated inside a locked, dark-tinted car. Passersby were unable to spot them in time due to the obscured glass.
Daso stressed the urgent need for tighter regulation of tinted vehicles nationwide, saying such measures would balance public safety with legitimate private use.
Meanwhile, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, clarified that the Nigeria Police had not yet been served with the Federal High Court order stopping enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy.
