BREAKING: Atiku, El-Rufai Lead Formation of New Political Party, All Democratic Alliance

A new political force may be on the rise in Nigeria as key political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, have formally applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of a new party — the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
The application, dated June 19 and acknowledged by INEC on June 20, was submitted by Chief Akin A. Rickets, Protem National Chairman of the Nigeria National Coalition Group (NNCG), the platform backing the proposed party.

In the letter, Rickets wrote:
“We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, ADA, as a political party… with ‘Justice for All’ as our slogan.”
Attached to the application were the party’s constitution, manifesto, logo, flag, and other relevant documents, including minutes from key coalition meetings. According to the application, the party’s ideology is grounded in democratic principles and the Nigerian Constitution, aiming to position ADA as a fresh political alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sources within the NNCG reveal that the coalition—which also includes former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and Dr. Umar Ardo of the League of Northern Democrats—initially explored merging with existing political parties like the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP). However, they abandoned that route due to internal disputes and legal challenges within those parties.
A special committee chaired by Amaechi later recommended establishing an entirely new platform to give all members equal footing and avoid factional influence.
With the ADA’s registration request now before INEC, all eyes are on the commission’s next move as the 2027 election cycle gradually takes shape.
