Briton applies for asylum at German airport

A 41-year-old British man applied for asylum at Munich airport in southern Germany, saying he no longer wanted to be British, German police said on Friday.

The reason for the asylum application was not given by him, but it is believed that it is not unconnected with Britain’s impending departure from the European Union.

The man also fears that if he returns to Britain he will face a prison sentence.

The Munich police officers made enquiries with their counterparts in London and found out that the man had been arrested in June for a brawl, but was later released on probation.

The police officers then directed the man to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, according to the police. (dpa/NAN)
