President Muhammadu Buhari has finally intervened in the budget padding saga shaking the House of Representatives and has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police to commence investigation.

The Punch reports that the DSS received full backing from President Buhari to carry out a full investigation into the alleged the N480bn budget padding.

Abdulmumin Jibrin, the former chairman of the House of Representatives Appropriation Committee had released statements accusing the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara and some other principal officers of budget paddling and corruption.

A claim Dogara has repeatedly faulted.

However, a source has revealed that Jibrin has submitted some evidence to the DSS indicting the House leadership.

The source said: “Security agencies have received the backing of the President to probe the allegation.

“The President has said that there is no sacred cow in the fight against corruption.

“You know he is close to Dogara, but he will not stop the security agencies from investigating anybody.”

It was also reported that Dr. Abel Ochigbo who is the clerk of the committee was prevented from entering the secretariat of the Committee on Appropriation at the House of Representatives even though he had a key.

One of the officers told him that he had instructions not to allow anyone in.

“No, no; you cannot enter there please,” he said.

In response, Ochigbo said: “I think it is to safeguard the place because of the issues going on.

“These people (DSS) are our colleagues from other departments; there are sergeant-at-arms personnel here.

“I assure you that everything is intact inside the office. Nothing has been vandalised. No member of staff has been harassed for whatever reason.”
