Buhari Approves Health Agencies DGs Replacements

Following the sack of the Ministry of Health DGs by the President, Muhammadu Buhari in a move described by one of the senior officers of the Ministry as a ‘routine system cleanup’, the President has appointed replacements for the sacked officers.

Buhari has approved the appointment of new heads of the five strategic health institutions in the country. The institutions include: the Centre for Disease Control, National Agency for the Control of Aids, the Nigerian Institute for Medical Research, National Primary Health Care Development Agency and National Health Insurance Scheme.

The new approved heads for the institutions are: Dr Chikwe Andreas Ihekweazu who is to head the Centre for Disease Control, Dr Sani Aliyu to head the National Agency for the Control of Aids, Prof. Babatunde Salako to head the Nigerian Institute for Medical Research, Prof. Echezona Ezeanolue for the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and Prof. Usman Yusuf for the National Health Insurance Scheme.

All appointments as approved by the President is expected to take effect with immediate effect.
